Psychological Assessments for Children and Adolescents

Our licensed psychologists conduct psychological evaluations to identify a myriad of conditions in children and adolescents, including neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The assessment consists of clinical intake interviews, standardized tests, the collection of medical, academic, and psychosocial history through questionnaires, review of other relevant documents, a feedback session provided to the parents, and a completed report with the results and recommendations.

Psychological Assessments for Adults

Psycho-diagnostic and psychological assessments are offered for a variety of presenting problems in adulthood, including anxiety, depression, learning disorders, and ADHD. This process also includes clinical intake interviews, standardized testing and questionnaires, a feedback session with the client, and a detailed report with the findings and recommendations.

 Psychoeducational Assessments

Psychoeducational assessments are conducted by a licensed psychologist with the goals of providing information about a child's academic, behavioral, and cognitive functioning which may be contributing to problems at home or at school. These comprehensive assessments can also provide diagnoses of behavioral and psychiatric disorders, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), specific learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia), intellectual developmental disorders (i.e., intellectual disability), conduct/oppositional problems, as well as socio-emotional functioning difficulties (anxiety, depression).

Derogation Assessments

In Quebec, most children begin Kindergarten at age 5 (by September 30) and Grade 1 at age 6. However, some children may benefit from starting school earlier or from waiting an extra year. These exceptional cases are called derogations.

Early entry may be granted to children born after September 30 who show advanced abilities, maturity, and school readiness. For these children, an early start helps keep them challenged and engaged in learning.

Delayed entry may be recommended when a child needs more time to develop key skills in areas such as language, motor coordination, or social-emotional maturity. Waiting an extra year often allows children to build confidence and be better prepared for success.

At D2 Psychology, we provide comprehensive psychological evaluations to guide families and schools in making these important decisions. Assessments include measures of cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and adaptive skills, combined with input from parents and educators. Parents are also encouraged to seek evaluations from a speech-language pathologist and an occupational therapist before beginning the derogation process, to ensure a complete picture of the child’s development.

Immigration-related Psychological Assessments

Our clinic provides specialized psychological evaluations to support immigration cases where individuals may not qualify under regular IRCC categories but could be considered for permanent residency due to exceptional circumstances.

Immigration lawyers frequently require detailed psychological reports to strengthen applications, yet few psychologists specialize in this area. Typical clients include individuals who have overstayed their visa, had a refugee claim denied more than a year ago, or families excluded from sponsorship because of documentation challenges.

The evaluations include comprehensive clinical interviews, standardized mental health assessments (e.g., depression, trauma, and functioning measures), review of supporting documents such as medical or police reports, preparation of a thorough report outlining psychological history, current mental health, and the potential risks if deported.
